The Kensdale Public Library (KPL) is a public library in Kensdale, Ohio. It is where Kate Park worked as a librarian. After her death, her nibling Riley Park and friend Joanne Cook visited to search for the Amanda the Adventurer tapes.

The library's mascot is Wooly, an anthropomorphic sheep who is also a character in Amanda the Adventurer.

History[]

1991–2022[]

The Kensdale Public Library was established as late as 1991.[1] A notable librarian is Kate Park, who may have worked there since its opening and was deemed excellent at her work.[2]

In 1999[3] when Sam Colton's public-access show Amanda the Adventurer grew in popularity, Kate further promoted it during story times at the library, with Sam sometimes joining to read.[4] Sam thanked her for this on Coffee Break and recognized her as a "champion of the project."[5]

After Amanda the Adventurer was animated and nationalized by Hameln Entertainment in 2001, the Kensdale Public Library hosted a fundraiser named "Wooly's Read-A-Thon" in late 2002,[6] which would have featured Amanda's voice actor, Rebecca Colton. Rebecca's appearance was canceled by Hameln following Sam's disappearance three weeks prior.[7]

When the controversy surrounding Amanda the Adventurer arose, Kate began investigating the show, doing some of her work at the library. A woman named Joanne Cook found the library to be her safe place after her younger brother, Jordan Cook, disappeared. She felt grateful for Kate being there for her.[8]

At an unspecified point, the library underwent a renovation that added a "Kid's Corner" in the back. The Corner included an activity center and an expanded selection for early readers. The renovation was funded by donations from library visitors.[4]

2023[]

In February 2023,[9] Kate was killed in a car crash after she fled from an attack involving her, Joanne, and the Colton Anomaly at her house. Later, library employee Sofie noticed several books were being tampered with cryptic writing and had found and locked away a tape for review by co-worker Margret.

On February 20,[9] Joanne—incognito—and Kate's nibling Riley, entered the library past closing time to search for tapes containing episodes of Amanda the Adventurer. Joanne hid from Riley that her true intention was to smash the tapes. Riley proceeded to watch the episodes, leaving them to be gathered by Joanne, who eventually revealed her identity and objective. Before Joanne and Riley could leave, Shepherd attacked the former, forcing Riley to descend into a secret entrance to the sewers below the library.

Trivia[]

  • A spider can appear around the library on a bookshelf.
  • There is a conflict with the spelling of "Kid's Corner". Although the sign above the Corner has no apostrophe, Kate and Sam in "Sam's Library Visit" spell it as "Kids' Corner" and "Kid's Corner" in the subtitles, respectively. A Steam profile background spells it as "Kid's Corner".
  • In the Amanda the Adventurer 2 demo, years accompany the books' checkout dates. In the full game, only the month and day are present.
    • With this, the earliest checked-out book is Journal Of A Non-Existent Child on May 17, 1991. The latest is Grown Attached on June 27, 2019.
  • Twenty-two interactive books can be found around the library. Finding all of them is required for an achievement.
  • There is a lighting difference between the demo and the full release of Amanda the Adventurer 2. The spotlights pointing at the Kid's Corner sign are no longer on.
