Prologue of Amanda the Adventurer 3

The prologue of Amanda the Adventurer 3, set ten years before the ending of Amanda the Adventurer 2, involves an unnamed infiltrator entering the Hameln Entertainment facility and backing up data onto a red VHS tape. During this, a security lockdown is triggered, forcing the infiltrator to follow a deactivation protocol using clues given in an Amanda the Adventurer episode.

Transcript

Opening

• Voicemail: "Please leave your message after the tone."

A video appears, showing clips from "Security Footage", "Recording Booth", and "Rebecca's Room".

• Infiltrator: "Hey, Kate, it's- [activates voice changer] It's me. I'm going in tonight. Seems they've upped their security since my last few visits. That's a good thing though, means we're on to something. I'll meet you at the regular spot, at the regular time, for the hand off. I got a good feeling about tonight, think I'm close to something big. All right, I'll see you in a few hours."

Cut to the DreadXP logo.

Cut to the inside of the Hameln Entertainment facility. A light bulb is shown swinging in a dark room. Footsteps are heard.

• Guard: "Excuse me, sir."
• Infiltrator: [whispering] "Frick."
• Guard: "Yeah, just gotta see your access card, as it's after hours."

The infiltrator starts to run.

• Guard: "Sir? Hey! Hey, stop right there! We've got a code 13 in C-wing, requesting backup!"
• Infiltrator: [whispering] "Please be open."

A door opens, then closes. The infiltrator breathes heavily.

• Dispatch: "Copy that, backup dispatched to C-wing."

Cut to the MANGLEDmaw Games logo, which changes to the Hameln Entertainment logo.

• Guard: "Roger, let's find this rat."

More footsteps are heard. The infiltrator lets out a long exhale.

• Infiltrator: "Okay..."

C-wing

Fade into gameplay. The infiltrator stands outside a keycard-locked door.

• Infiltrator: "That's gotta lead to the security room."

While looking around, a voice appears over the speakers.

• Speakers: "Attention Hameln employees: We've been notified that unwelcome persons have entered into the C-wing. Please stay vigilant as you continue your night shifts and report any and all suspicious activity to a Hameln Happiness Protector immediately. Thank you."

The announcement ends with the Hameln jingle.

After walking through an office, the infiltrator finds the access card of Danny McQuiggin on the table of a conference room.

• Infiltrator: "Hm, where will you take me?"

The infiltrator returns to the keycard-locked door and scans the card. The door opens to a chamber with pods.

• Infiltrator: "What the hell...?"

After slowly walking inside, the door shuts behind the infiltrator. He tries in vain to reopen it.

At the end of the chamber is the aforementioned security room. A console displays surveillance footage. On the main screen is a paused reel of an Amanda the Adventurer episode. To the left is a log.

The infiltrator looks around before inserting a red VHS tape into the console.

• Infiltrator: "Let's see what we can find."

A loading bar appears on the left screen.

• Infiltrator: "'Backup ready. Begin reel to start process.' Huh..."

> backup in progress.

please wait until backup is complete.

The reel suddenly starts, with Amanda standing in front of the camera. The infiltrator gasps and falls backward.

• Amanda: "Hi! I'm Amanda!"
• Infiltrator: "Jesus..."

The camera zooms out to show Wooly standing next to Amanda, holding a clipboard. The two are in a neighborhood.

• Wooly: "And I'm Wooly!"

The infiltrator sighs, stands, and returns to the screen.

• Amanda: "Today we're going on a super-secret spy treasure hunt! A scavenger hunt is a game where you try to find all the things on a list! Come on, let's go!"

Amanda and Wooly run to the left.

• Amanda: "Are you ready to start the hunt? Whoever finds everything wins the prize!"
• Wooly: "The first thing on a list is a purple fire hydrant. Hmmm...."
• Amanda: [to the viewer] "Do you see a purple fire hydrant?"
• Infiltrator: "It's- It's right there."
• Amanda: "Good job! I see it over there. Wooly, check the purple fire hydrant off our list."

Wooly pauses before continuing.

• Wooly: "The next thing on the list is... a door with three windows."
• Amanda: [to the viewer] "Can you help us find a door with three windows?"
• Speakers: "Threat detected."

An alarm sounds inside the facility. The reel is paused.

• Infiltrator: "Damn."
• Speakers: "Security lockdown protocol initiated."
• Infiltrator: "That is not good."
• Speakers: "Please remain calm. Authorized Hameln employees should follow the security lockdown deactivation procedure if they wish to deactivate the security lockdown protocol."

In the pod chamber, the eight switches have become active. The switches are connected by wires to each pod, labeled with a different object.

• Amanda: "Nope, that's not on our list!"

After the second time:

• Amanda: "You don't make a very good super-secret spy, do you?"

After the third time, the scene darkens to highlight the door.

• Amanda: "Oh look, a door with three windows."

After clicking the door:

• Amanda: "A door with three windows! Good job!"

The reel ends.

• Speakers: "Warning: Facility entering threat disposal mode."

Chlorine trifluoride gas is pumped into the area. The infiltrator coughs, falls over, and dies.

If the player pulls the wrong switch:

• Speakers: "A reminder that if the security lockdown deactivation procedure is not followed properly, the facility security system will enter into threat disposal mode. The current threat disposal mode is set to: chlorine trifluoride gas."

After the second time, a second alarm sounds.

• Speakers: "A reminder that chlorine trifluoride is an interhalogen compound with the formula CIF₃. It is a colorless, poisonous, corrosive, and extremely reactive gas."

After the third time:

• Speakers: "Warning: Facility entering threat disposal mode."

Chlorine trifluoride gas is pumped into the area. The infiltrator coughs, falls over, and dies.

After pulling the switch connected to the pod labeled with a three-window door and returning to the security room:

• Amanda: "I found it! A door with three windows! [to Wooly] Cross it off the list."

Wooly nods.

• Amanda: "Great work, super-secret spy team! This is fun!"

Amanda and Wooly walk to another part of the neighborhood.

• Amanda: "Okay, Wooly, what's next?"
• Wooly: "An old sock. Gross!"
• Amanda: "Well, if it's on the list, we have to find it. [to the viewer] Can you help us?"

In the pod chamber, the eight switches have become active.

After the second time:

• Amanda: "Do you even want to play this game with us?"

After the third time, the scene darkens to highlight the sock.

• Amanda: [sarcastic] "This scavenger hunt is so much fun with you here."

After clicking the sock:

• Amanda: "We found it! An old sock! So stinky!"

The reel ends.

• Speakers: "Warning: Facility entering threat disposal mode."

After pulling the switch connected to the pod labeled with a sock and returning to the security room:

• Wooly: "Here it is! A smelly old sock!"
• Amanda: "Pee-ew!"

Amanda and Wooly walk to another part of the neighborhood.

• Amanda: "Okay, what's the next thing on the list, Wooly?"
• Wooly: "A- A stray dog?"

A dog barks and snarls, appearing on the left of the house behind Amanda and Wooly.

• Amanda: [to the viewer] "Do you see a nice stray doggy anywhere?"

In the pod chamber, the eight switches have become active.

• Amanda: "That's not a dog, silly."

After the second time:

• Amanda: "Have you ever seen a dog before?"

After the third time, the scene darkens to highlight the dog.

• Amanda: "Here, doggy, doggy!" [giggles]

After clicking the dog:

• Amanda: "What a sweet doggy!"

The dog growls and runs away. Amanda waves.

• Amanda: "Bye bye, doggy!"

The reel ends.

• Speakers: "Warning: Facility entering threat disposal mode."

Chlorine trifluoride gas is pumped into the area. The infiltrator coughs, falls over, and dies.

After pulling the switch connected to the pod labeled with a dog, a guard is heard in the hallway leading to the room.

• Guard: "Damn it! We've got an active lockdown in room Echo 7. I need someone with clearance level 4 down here now!"
• Dispatch: "Roger, sending someone down now."
• Guard: "Tell them to hustle!"

After returning to the security room:

• Amanda: "Look at the sweet puppy! We found him!"

The dog growls and runs away.

• Wooly: "This scavenger hunt is fun! Let's see what's next!"

Amanda and Wooly walk to another part of the neighborhood. A sparking wire is next to a power pole.

• Amanda: "Wooly, what is it?"
• Wooly: "We're looking for a sparking snake."
• Amanda: [to the viewer] "Do you see a sparking snake around here?"

In the pod chamber, the eight switches have become active.

After the second time:

• Amanda: "Does that look like a snake to you?"

After the third time, the scene darkens to highlight the wire.

• Amanda: "There it is! A sparking snake!"

After clicking the wire, Amanda and Wooly go to inspect it.

• Amanda: "Oooooh, the sparks are so pretty!"

Wooly touches it, electrocuting him.

The reel ends.

• Speakers: "Warning: Facility entering threat disposal mode."

Chlorine trifluoride gas is pumped into the area. The infiltrator coughs, falls over, and dies.

After pulling the switch connected to the pod labeled with a power pole and returning to the security room:

Amanda and Wooly are shown inspecting the wire before the latter is electrocuted.

Ending

The infiltrator sees that the backup is almost complete.

• Infiltrator: "Almost there..."
• Guard: "We're coming for you, you little rat!"

> backup complete.

> please take VHS tape.

The tape is ejected.

• Infiltrator: "Got it."
• Guard: "Open the door!"

The pod chamber door opens.

• Infiltrator: "Aw hell."
• Guard: "Go, go, go! The security room!"

The infiltrator presses a button for an elevator. He puts the tape in one of the file bins.

• Infiltrator: "Damn this place."

Footsteps are heard approaching as the infiltrator urgently presses the elevator button.

• Guard: "Going down, huh?"

A gun is clicked.

• Infiltrator: "Now, j- just hold on, I can exp—"

Cut to black as the elevator dings, ending the prologue.

Trivia

• The voice over the speakers says chlorine trifluoride has the formula CIF₃, with an i instead of an L.
  • This line is taken from the lead of the Wikipedia article for chlorine trifluoride.
• There is a possible continuity error introduced by the prologue. The console in the security room says the date is April 12, 2003. The end of the prologue is a time skip of ten years to the end of Amanda the Adventurer 2, which takes place on February 20, 2023, evident by the calendar in Kate's office and KND 97.
