“ | As soon as I met my beautiful daughter, the inspiration was there. You know, she was so young when I adopted her. And despite what she's gone through, she's always seen the world with such kindness and joy. She's the light of my life. And it makes me so happy to share that light with our community. | ” |
— Sam in the Purple Tape |
Sam Colton was a television producer, known for his creation of Amanda the Adventurer. He was the adoptive father of Rebecca Colton. Eventually, Sam mysteriously disappeared and was reported as such.
Appearance[]
Sam is an African-American male with a buzzcut and goatee.
History[]
Sam's early life is unknown.
In the late '90s,[1] Sam adopted a girl named Rebecca. Her joyous view of the world would become Sam's inspiration to create a live-action show titled Amanda the Adventurer, with Rebecca starring as the titular protagonist, Amanda. The show became a hit in his hometown, Kensdale, with it also being promoted by the local librarian, Kate Park.[2]
In March 2000, Sam would meet up with Lacey Mitchel, a journalist at the Kensdale Daily, chatting about the show's growth.[1] Later, Sam went on a talk show titled Coffee Break, where he was interviewed by its host, Sadie Koppen. In it, he revealed that "some people" approached him about turning Amanda the Adventurer into a cartoon and promoting it nationally, which excited him.[2] This would occur when the rights to the show were purchased by Hameln Entertainment.
Later, at Hameln's Headquarters, Rebecca would record lines with the Hameln Director, with Sam accompanying them. However, the script that Rebecca read contained odd, repeated phrases, with the director reassuring Sam that it's to "train the technology's dynamic voice reaction." Then, Rebecca hears a "man in the headphones" which makes Sam more uncomfortable and wants the session to stop.[3]
Around 2001,[4] Sam mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Hameln released a written statement, claiming that he abandoned the show and Rebecca, and that they "cannot speculate on his reasons for leaving."[5] Sam's true fate is unknown, however it is implied that he was killed by Hameln Entertainment to stop him from meddling with their experiments on his adopted daughter Rebecca.
Trivia[]
- A popular theory is that Hameln is the one responsible for Sam's disappearance, possibly to silence him.
- In "What's a Family?", if the player types "Sam" when Amanda asks what a daddy chicken is called, she will be surprised that they know that name.
- Sam may be inspired by Chris Gifford, the creator of Dora the Explorer.
